Do screen protectors help with screen sensitivity?

I have a question about screen protectors. I'm a newbie, and I have trouble scrolling without selecting things. My screen seems too sensitive. I've tried many different ways of scrolling, but still I end up selecting something rather than scrolling, way too often. Would a screen protector help desensitize the screen just a bit, and help with this problem?
