Is there a God?

Nope. Use to but I have found no matter how much good I do, how good I treat people, how much I volunteer, how hard and honest I work, nothing good happens. I just get the crap, if there was a god I would reap something. Iv lost my family to divorce, 2 of my kids live 1900 miles away, we have next to nothing, yep I don't believe after so much.

Spending 18 months of my life in the Middle East and seen what religion has done to that region over the years (or centuries, for that matter) really made me despise the ideology of it. I absolutely respect everyone's right to believe in whatever they want to believe in, but fighting over it is so senseless it breaks my heart. I just wish everyone was as sensible as people here seem to be about it.

Sorry to hear about your hardships. But looking at what you are saying perplexed me. You were blessed with two children who may live miles away but they are your children. And while you may do things that you believe are good deeds you're going into it with the wrong Outlook... all of those good things you do is for a reason...somebody needed that help and you gave it... I'm far from a preacher nor do I claim to be one but not too many people have a roof over there heads, food to eat...let alone a phone to call or write in a forum with...you my android brother are still blessed...

I voted no. Though i think its complicated. I believe in Darwinist evolution, as i am a logical type of person and believing in something i cant confirm is hard for me.

What i dont like to see is using religion as a means to control people, or killing in gods name, for example the catholics in the crusades or the terrorists of today.
I certainly believe that if there is a god, he would not condone "Holy war" against anything. In all major religious texts, it is a sin or wrong to murder. Period.
It makes me sick to see something meant to be good and holy being used to manipulate people.

Man corrupts all.

Yes I believe in God.

In today's society, people really misinterpret what God really is. He isn't this giant invisible titan that sits in the atmosphere and magically knows every single thing that goes on in every person lives. Additionally, if you think you "believe" in him and expect your life to be enriched, you are sadly wrong. People think their lives will be improved if they say they believe in God and pray once a year. Nope. If you've never seriously read the bible, and really know nothing about god or the bible's teachings, then you are seriously fooling yourself by thinking you do. The bible actually has several verses that talk about people who claim to know God and expect to be blessed by the riches of the Earth, that's not what it's about people!

Also, if you think about the universe as a whole, how do you deny the existence of something spiritual? Sure we can't prove it but that's because the human mind simply can not comprehend the sheer size of the universe, what lies beyond it, and what God is. People get so caught up in materialistic things on Earth that they forget the earth is a millionth the size of a grain of sand in the scope of universe. The Earth is NOTHING. Humans are NOTHING. We know NOTHING about the universe. Our knowledge about anything beyond our little planet is extremely limited, which is what really matters. If any species came to our planet they would be instantly superior to us. Don't sit here and act like you just know **** and can explain how God doesn't exist, we know NOTHING!

^ Everyone looks for reasons to validate their points, you have yours, I have mine, and everyone else has their own.

Though I DEFINATELY don't believe in aliens. Haha.
Just think about how slim the chances are of another planet forming thats hospitable to life. If there is other life, its bacteria or something small and basic.

But that's another topic. Haha

You must not realize how big the universe is, let alone our own galaxy. We haven't discovered all of the planets in our galaxy yet, so to say there are no other lifeforms out there is flat out silly. There are over 1 Googol stars in the universe (1 followed by 100 zeros) and each one has planets that rotate around it.

Again, this is a misconception by modern society. People think of aliens and automatically assume 3 foot tall green dudes with giant black eyes and huge heads, not the case. It's almost sad how everyone believes this junk.

Also, conditions don't have to be exactly like Earth's to support life.

Im not saying that they are green men. But you don't realize that the chances of sentient life far out weigh the amount of estimated planets.

A known psychological trait of humans is thinking that we are the exception to the rule, the rule being " this wont happen to me" etc.

That being said, you saying nobody knows anything is a contradiction due to you being confident your beliefs are right, all others are wrong and that you know the truth for certain. This is not possible according to you.
So, nobody knows for certain of anything. I also believe this, because these are BELIEFS. Not facts. There is no right or wrong.

I think you your self know that, and if you say you don't, your being ignorant of your critical thinking skill set.

Everyone is entitled too their own beliefs. I have no problem with religious people, and you should not take offense to people that do not share your religion or beliefs.

I say this because I get the feeling you're mad, or offended. If im wrong and youre not, great.

+1

I was raised a Catholic in a hardcore Puerto Rican/Italian Catholic family. However, around my junior year (in a Catholic school too btw) I started to see the light.. I've researched and read just about every religion out there from the Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Ancient Egyptian and everything in between for over 10 years now.. I don't mean to be offensive, but I've realized that all religions are nothing but plagiarized stories. The similarities between them all are unbelievable. I personally believe in science and logic. I just can't believe in something that simply can't be proved. With that said I will never knock anyone for their faith. I know of a lot of people (especially the many relatives I have in the military) where their faith in "God" has kept them alive. I think having faith itself can go a long way, regardless of whether it's faith in a God or not. What frustrates me the most is what was mentioned before, the religious hypocrites. The fact that you have so many religious people that damn near condemn gays/lesbians to hell for example is something that burns me up to my very inner core. The fact that you have some religious factions that will go as far as condemn and entire race or ethnicity is absolutely appalling and quite frankly goes against everything they supposedly are supposed to believe in. But anyway, I say no.. I don't...

@Chris Kerrigan Dude there is no possible way to thank you for your service. Hopefully when my knee is all healed up I'll be wearing a uniform myself as I plan on joining the National Guard.

oo ya and I believe in aliens. It may not be anything close to what we imagine, but the idea that in this endless and still expanding universe that this little planet (that we've managed to destroy) is the only place to hold life more complicating than bacteria just doesn't add up. With the new discovery that was found a couple of weeks ago that completely changes what we even think are the basic necessities to create life it only further solidifies my belief. I still think Michael Jackson was an alien btw... just sayin.. -__-

You guys are too kind. I appreciate the gratitude everybody, you're the best! And Jerzy, my best wishes to you and what you want to do. It's a big commitment, but it's worth it in my mind.
