Do you keep 4G on or off?

Just curious to hear if anyone typically keeps their 4G on all day or if you only turn it on when needed? As an EVO 4G owner, you really can't keep 4G on at all unless you have your charger handy as you can literally watch the battery life drop before your eyes. Thnx,

Only when outside for me. In my house 3G is faster but right outside the house it's screaming fast. The battery on this thing is so good that it really doesn't matter much with my usage.

I only use mine when outside and need to get a fairly big download. Other times I leave it off.

I leave it on as well. With as good as the 4G modem sleeps on this, I see little to no effect on overall battery.Also, when it connects to wifi, it automatically disables 4G. I leave bluetooth on all the time as well. Would never do that with a HTC phone, thats for sure!

Interesting. So do you think the E4GT is better about disabling/putting-to-sleep the Wimax radio when it's not being used or is not in coverage?

I leave mine off. I've heard it drains the battery (although I haven't tested this myself) and for most of my usage 3G seems to work just fine. If I'm doing something more than casual web surfing, then I've tried a few times to bump up to 4G. Mixed results there ... sometimes I get 4G and sometimes it's fast ... sometimes not so much. FWIW, I'm in Los Angeles, which should be a decent 4G area I assume.

I leave mine off until needed, being an og evo owner we basically trained ourselves! But I've noticed with the updates to android system, with the 4g on standby, or actually active it doesn't severely kill your batt. like earlier model 4g phones. I noticed this by accidentally leaving the 4g on all day, and actually using it. Much improved! It almost seems to use less power than 3g for surfing. Both behind wi-fi though.

Depending where i will be i leave it on all day. Like some said , sleep mode seems to be so good on this thing that there is no need to turn it off. At home i use wifi just be cause its there but i have used 4g at home before. I would say 90% percent of my time during the week I'm in a 4G area. Hopefully with these upgrades to the towers you guys without 4G will get better 3G speeds to make up for it. :O)

I tend to leave the 4G antenna off during the day since at home and work I am in marginal 4G signal areas. 3G tends to handle most of my needs during the day. I may experiment with keeping the antenna on all day just to see the impact to my battery life.

Count me in the leave it on camp. I've noticed that with the wimax radio off, and with exchange activesync on push, my battery drains about 1 - 1 1/2% per hour with nominal usage. With the wimax radio turned on, it's between 2-3% per hour which is still pretty good, especially coming from an EVO 4G. After a 12 hour day with 4G on, on typically still have 60-65%charge left. Since I charge every night, I see no reason to turn it off since I am in a heavily covered 4G area.

When in a remembered wifi area, wifi automatically takes over and when I leave, it automatically goes back to 4G.

Off, since I don't have it where I live. However, if I did have it, I'd probably keep it off as well unless I needed the speed for something and was away from wifi.

I live in an area just on the outskirts of 4G, so sometimes I get it, and sometimes I don't (inside my home). It's weird because I can actually tell the different points in my home where I will get a 4G signal and where I won't. So normally I keep it off unless I'm in one of those "hot spots" in my home, or if I'm outside. Even then, it's iffy; good sometimes and not so much others. Luckily, I'm moving soon to an area which supposedly has much better 4G coverage (actually tested it myself last year with my OG Epic) so when that happens, I will likely move into the "keep it on all the time" crowd...
