I think I already know most people don't like it, but I think I may be one of the few who actually like it.

I would question how many actually know what Blur is or if they just don't like it because they've been told they don't like it :)

Personally, I would have chosen "Doesn't bother me and I understand vendors want to differentiate their phones" I like Blur better than Sense which seems designed for people who get distracted by shiny things too much.

I don't see where it should be an issue for anyone. It's Motorola's phone, so I can't fault them for putting it on the device, just like GMC puts OnStar in all there vehicles. If someone doesn't like MotoBlur, just install another UI like LauncherPro. This is the same argument that bb users made when verizon pushed Bing to all it's bb devices. If you don't like Bing, make your home page Google...no big deal.

I slapped Launcher Pro on my X the second I got it. The Moto homescreen is slow and terribleeee.

Actually, to make things a little more interesting. What exactly do or don't people like about it?

I like the concept of resizeable widgets. That said, I think I've deleted most or all of the Moto widgets because I don't find them overly useful. However I've got plenty of non-Moto widgets that have multiple entries and come in multiple sizes and allowing that to be cleaned up would be great.

I like the non-nonsense UI. The only thing that should be flashy about the OS will come when Froyo is released, otherwise it's just a distraction to me.

What I don't like? Not much. The vast majority of the UI I'm ambivalent to, it largely works the way it should and I'd rather deal with third party apps that know what they're doing than have to worry about fixing stock widgets from the manufacturers (Tweetdeck has promise, and a Gwibber client would be great but I don't expect Motorola to come up with anything as nice). About the only thing that would be nice is if all phones had an easy "vanilla Android" button, even if only accessible via root so the norms wouldn't even know it's there. To be honest, I don't even know how that would make things different over the Moto-UI once I've deleted the widgets and icons I don't use.

For those who wonder why this isn't the case, look at SenseUI. It's widely regarded as a good UI (by people other than me) and is a selling point that may keep people buying HTC phones. Motorola is looking for their own niche, if they find it it's a reason why you should hold off should HTC release a next-gen Evo on Verizon and see what the Droid X2 will look like. If phones were completely interchangeable there's not much incentive for manufacturers to build them - any hardware differences will be out of date in a month. Think of how things would be if Porsche and Mercedes had to use the same dashboard as Toyota and Chevy - equalizing look-and-feel of the phone causes the manufacturers to lose their identity and you end up with a bunch of clones instead of the ideal all Android users should strive for: choice!

You make some good points jdbower. Personally i like the blur, but sense has a good bit more to offer. A little refinement and it could be a good selling point of the droid series.

I really don't want to offend those who like the UI. But I tried the X next to my nexus and the MOTO UI is just awful. Just my opinion. Why did they do it!

Honestly, i don't understand all the commotion behind the hate for MotoBLUR. I love it so far. In fact, it was quite a huge selling point for me when getting the X.

Maybe im just spoiled from all the resizable widgets i can use, me being a widget whore and all.

Oddly enough, im not a fan of Sense UI. It actually bothers the hell out of me. Lol.

i dont mind blur, and would not be upset if it was my regular UI. i think the social networking apps have some merit (battery drain aside), and the re-sizable widgets are nice (and i particularly liked the contacts ones), as well as the bar used to quick jump screens.

that said, i am glad that there are launcher alternatives like launcherpro and adw, as i feel they offer a more customizable experience

I also wonder what is so bad about the MOTO blur UI. I saw it and it didn't look bad to me at all. I have an EVO so I use Sense, and I really like it, but MOTO blur isn't that far behind it. Like a previous poster said, you can always put a theme over it if you wish.

I am a fan of Sense. I used it (or rather it's predecessor) on my old WinMo phone, and again on my Droid Eris. I love the widgets such as Calender, and Twitter. That said I'm ready for something different and am eagerly awaiting my Droid X. I like ADWLauncher, and Launcher Pro as well. What I don't like about the X is that stock wallpaper. It's too noisy and dirty.

Something about the stock wallpaper makes everything look good... If you look over at the Motorola forums theres a lot of posts about how people don't like the Moto UI.

And - "When asked about it, Sanjay Jha, Motorola CEO, confirmed that MotoBlur is running on Droid X, but it has been hidden from the user."

First post here. My x is on order and after playing with both the htc and the moto versions of Ui overlays I find flaws in both but prefer the motoblur.

I like the looks of it but hate the slowness and lack of options like only syncing your existing contacts with facebook and not everyone. I have gone to lp+ but if they fix those i will take a look at blur again. On it not being blur didnt motorolas ceo just admit that was what it was?

What flaws did you find on Sense? I am just curious. Also what device?

I'm new to Android (came from iPhone land) and MotoBlur is craptastic. I can understand if Moto wants to add value to their devices by including something unique to their devices, but it isn't necessary. People don't buy the Droid (X) for MotoBlur they buy it for the hardware features and Android. I wouldn't be so hard on MotoBlur if it didn't make the hardware perform so poorly. My stock DX stuttered, froze, and was very frustrating to use. As a newb to the Android platform it made my experience that much worse. Once I junked MB for Launcher Pro things smoothed out immensely. I wouldn't be taking Moto to task as harshly if I had a choice to completely wipe MB off my machine. Even while running LPP MB is still leaching system resources. It's like Moto decided to create an equivalent to Sense, but instead of producing a polished product they stopped at poor and pathetic.

I dragged all of the Moto widgets to the trash shortly after getting my phone.

I don't know why Motorola wasted it's time with that nonsense. Those widgets either suck, or, are totally redundant.
