Actually, to make things a little more interesting. What exactly do or don't people like about it?
I like the concept of resizeable widgets. That said, I think I've deleted most or all of the Moto widgets because I don't find them overly useful. However I've got plenty of non-Moto widgets that have multiple entries and come in multiple sizes and allowing that to be cleaned up would be great.
I like the non-nonsense UI. The only thing that should be flashy about the OS will come when Froyo is released, otherwise it's just a distraction to me.
What I don't like? Not much. The vast majority of the UI I'm ambivalent to, it largely works the way it should and I'd rather deal with third party apps that know what they're doing than have to worry about fixing stock widgets from the manufacturers (Tweetdeck has promise, and a Gwibber client would be great but I don't expect Motorola to come up with anything as nice). About the only thing that would be nice is if all phones had an easy "vanilla Android" button, even if only accessible via root so the norms wouldn't even know it's there. To be honest, I don't even know how that would make things different over the Moto-UI once I've deleted the widgets and icons I don't use.
For those who wonder why this isn't the case, look at SenseUI. It's widely regarded as a good UI (by people other than me) and is a selling point that may keep people buying HTC phones. Motorola is looking for their own niche, if they find it it's a reason why you should hold off should HTC release a next-gen Evo on Verizon and see what the Droid X2 will look like. If phones were completely interchangeable there's not much incentive for manufacturers to build them - any hardware differences will be out of date in a month. Think of how things would be if Porsche and Mercedes had to use the same dashboard as Toyota and Chevy - equalizing look-and-feel of the phone causes the manufacturers to lose their identity and you end up with a bunch of clones instead of the ideal all Android users should strive for: choice!
