Do you still receive notification if background data is disabled?

I noticed some of my app such as whatsapp, and facebook/facebook messenger using data in the background. If i turn their background data off will i still get notification if someone sends me a message?

Also, do you need to keep Google and Voice control background data on for any reason? It's using a little bit of data.

Idon't use those apps specifically, but the apps I do use are all turned to "always save power" and I get notifications from them. The reason is the power saving and notifications (at least on Sprint) are two different systems (turned off different places). I would say turn off FB and see if the notifications come through (being FB, it shouldn't take too long...). As to Google/Voice Control, I would recommend you don't put those in "doze" mode. They don't play well with sleep (at least so far as wanting to have all the neat Google integration of sites, etc.). Hope this helps!
