I think there's a great liklihood that the '14 Note 10.1's action memo and scrapbook will sync with the Note 3 but I'm doubtful about older Galaxy Notes.

I believe they are both essentially the same S-Notes on these two devices, so yeah, chances are pretty high that they will sync. Furthermore, I believe Sammy's partnered with Evernote this time around, so while probably not editable, you might be able to see those notes in your computer or Evernote account in older devices.

I tried out the Evernote sync on a Note 3 in-store model, and it works great. Hopefully it'll work the same way on the 10.1 2014 and Samsung might even be nice enough to give us older Note users that functionality too (2, 8.0, 10.1).

Did the Evernote sync let you edit any of the notes generated with the Note 3 or were they just 'read-only'? Are the 'actions' like video still playable?

I was able to edit the notes in SNote, and the changes synced back to the original note in Evernote. I didn't try to make any changes in Evernote on the web or a laptop. I don't even know if they allow you to edit handwritten notes on other platforms.

I'm thinking of getting a note 10.1 to replace my ipad 3 to go with my note3. I'm wondering if the s-notes will sync between the two, using evernote, and whether the note3 notes will show up as a small format, and the note10.1 notes will be scrollable?

I think the problem is that it's hot backing up for whatever reason. I've contacted samsung about it

Evernote, independently of S-Note, syncs flawlessly between the two devices. I just don't use it as the S-Note sync.

That's correct: Go to Accounts, select your Samsung account, then tap on the name of the account (for me it's my email address). You'll see a series of sync options, including S Notes and Scrapbook. Do the same on the GN3, and you're good to go.
