Do you use another launcher?

Still don't understand what's so bad with touchwiz.

Boils down to personal preference on features. Stock launcher has limitations on use of parts of the screen due to low icon density and very large margins. Some launchers allow complete control over widget sizes so you're not stuck with the standard size the widget came in. Some also provide gesture support in addition to support of custom icon packs.

For example on mine right now I've got a grid of 7x8 with no margins using Nova. I've also rooted and adjusted LCD density per app to reduce icon size just a little on the home screen.

I have gestures setup on key application icons, for example a swipe up on my dropbox icon gets me directly into a preferred folder as does a swipe up in my file manager. Swipe down in any margin between icons gets me notifications tray so I don't have to go to the top bar, swipe up gets app drawer. Nova supports multiple gestures including double finger up or down swipes, two finger pinching in/out and two finger rotation clockwise/counter clockwise as well as single finger double tap.

Not everyone likes desktop clutter like I have but I like having just about everything on one screen so I'm not jumping around to others with multiple taps or swipes. It's nice to have choices!

Nothing is "wrong" with Touchwiz and some people may be perfectly happy with it. But one of the things that makes Android the best OS is that it allows you to change the look as you please. Many things are able to be changed without rooting such as launchers, icons, etc... Some people love to maximize the screen by jamming as much in as possible, and others are perfectly fine with the tile layout. We have choices out of the box, which is great for those of us that have no interest in rooting. Hell, we paid enough money for these machines, we should be able to tweak them as we please!
