Dock audio output not working

I bought a Nexus 7 dock about a month ago & have only just got
round to buying a 3.5mm cable. I'm getting no sound from the
external speakers at all. I've never had a problem with it charging,
& I can't see anything in settings relating to the dock. Anybody any
advice or is it most likely a faulty dock? It's not routed.

Settings>Sound

Listed under dock there should be Audio, tap that. Then you will see a screen with a check box to enable sound for media etc.

Audio will only be selectable while your Nexus 7 is docked.
