Does 3rd Party apk affects on Google Playstore updates?

regarding the WhatsApp Dark Mode post, i was just wondering will it affects the update from Playstore? if we install 3rd Party apk, can it retrieve our Google Drive backup?

You should be able to get updates through play store , just use a source like APK mirror.

It depends on where you are getting your APKs from and whether they have been "meddled" with
