Seeing a lot of negativity on here about Lollipop - battery life, notifications, lag etc. Does anyone actually prefer it to KitKat and recommend the upgrade?

To put it bluntly..............No! If I could revert back to kitkat I would do in an instant.

I cannot stand the new notifications system, not only does it look ugly with the grey boxes appearing on your locks screen, if you don't want others to see the contents you have to set it to hide sensitive information. On doing this every notification states "contents hidden" underneath. It makes you feel like you are hiding something when in reality you are just simply ensuring your messages are only being read by yourself like on every other phone. I loved it on kitkat how the notification you received was a little icon in the top tray and you then had the option to swipe down to see it.

- My phone is much slower. When I open some apps they flicker. It just doesn't run as smoothly as before.

- The other thing which has really annoyed me is that there is no longer the option to bypass the security screen with the music app. With kitkat under the security settings there was an option where you could "Unlock music automatically. Bypass security screen when launching Music". All you had to do was swipe the app up and it would automatically launch full access to music without having to enter the 4 digit pin number. This was so so handy when listening to music in my car whilst driving. Now with lollipop I am having to constantly re enter my 4 digit which is proving a nightmare whilst driving and dangerous too. I cannot understand why this has not been included in the update!

Hope that helps!

I like it. If it wasn't for the occasional stutter or app force close, it'd be perfect.

No, hate the notifications and the battery drains a lot faster. If I could revert back to Kitkat, I would!

I love it. My phone is faster, and battery life is better. I'll never go back to KK.

Are you able to turn them off? This and the battery life problems being reported are the two main reasons I don't want Lollipop. I have read that these lock screen notifications can not be turned off.

You can either disable all notifications on lockscreen or you can do it with each app individually. You can give priorities to which ones to display over others or disable for a particular app you don't want it happen on.

Go to Settings > Sound & Notifications > App Notifications (or When device is locked and have it not display any notifications on lockscreen)

A lot of problems would be solved with a factory reset before and/or after installing a major OS update (in Android's case, that's when the dessert name changes). App/OS data from the previous OS gets transferred to the new OS, and they don't play well together. This is true of all major software releases on all platforms. That's why you see a flurry of people complaining about battery life and lag after every year when iOS is updated.

Does it suck? Yes. But I think a lot of people's issues would be solved that way.

Lollipop is not on my phone yet so I'm not sure if this will help, but if you are using your phone in your car through bluetooth couldn't you just use Lollipop's trusted devices for your car so the lock screen is never used while connected to your car stereo? It's what I plan on doing. If you aren't using bluetooth though I guess the problem still stands. Unless you use something like Tasker.

A couple of things I've noticed since the update (No benefits to it IMO). When on a call and I remove the phone from my ear the screen doesn't come on so I cannot end the call unless I mess around with the power key. Email notification sound VERY quiet despite max volume setting. Anyone else?

Lollipop has been so buggy for me it's not even funny. My m8 was perfect in kitkat now my home button doesn't work sometimes I have to reboot my motion gestures don't work sometimes and it lags

Im on Verizon, haven't got the update yet. so you all recommend a factory reset BEFORE the update ? this would solve the problems, or is this just hearsay?

I like it. I've liked it since I first installed it on my Nexus 5 months ago. On my M8, I really like Smart Lock with my Moto 360. Under 4.4 the M8 was very laggy, especially in Chrome. That's all gone now, I have no lag so far. Everything feels smoother too.

I always do a factory reset before I install a major update. I did this on iOS and I do it on Android. And I've never experienced the lag/FCs/battery drain that people commonly complain about after a major OS update.

So I don't have any hard evidence... just my experience.
