Does devices gets encrypted during upgrade to lollipop?

I've heard that Lollipop enables encryption by default.

Is it enabled during ota upgrade? Or just if I do factory reset?

Nope, unless they are Nexus devices.

Even then they won't. Only the Nexus 6 has it by default. If you're upgrading to 5.0, you will have to enable it. If your device ships with 5.0+, then it will be enabled by default
