I read that the EVO has a 16bit screen and only capable of 65K colors. Can someone tell me if they see the color banding on this image of Mars. View it full screen. If I change my monitor to 16bit I can see the color banding in it.

Not in the mars image, but I have seen some banding on a image or two. Otherwise I've been pretty impressed for 16 bit.

do you mean where you can see the hues of a light source, etc, kind of like rings of different shades of color moving outward?

I have seen color banding in some images. This is particularly true in photos and videos that are heavily lit towards a particular color.

In most videos and photos, it's not particularly noticeable.

I really don't understand why HTC would opt to use a 16 bit screen. I suppose it had to do with cost.

No banding on my screen. Best screen I have had so far. This is coming from Palm Pre, HTC Touch Diamond, HTC Touch, MOTO Q, Palm Treo 600, so ymmv.

Well That is very disappointing for a phone this size. They could have at least went with an 18bit screen.

Well I'm looking on my nexus and see no banding whatsoever, which is weird cause I read that this was a problem with this phone. Using that very picture. But it looks smooth a silk blown up to maximum size for me.

If the nexus doesn't have it, the evo definitely shouldn't.
