I know it will reinstall apps but does it backup progress in games or backup user names and passwords. if not what do people do that change phones every few months?

I know with tap baseball I had on my m8 i was signed in on Google account witch u need to go to settings and sign in to account and leave it signed by not signing out. Transferred to 10 with HTC transfer tool and when I opened app on 10 it was not showing anything until I signed it and everything was there played for few days Then did a factory reset and signed in again and everything was up to date. But I know it's note every app. Some older ones keeps track of all trophies but not progress.

Not the 1 just the 10

It is totally developer dependent. Some apps won't back up at all, some back up only select days, and others do full backups. It's pretty hit and miss.

You can go into Google drive and see how much data each app is backing up but it doesn't give any indication of WHAT data is backed up.

Make sure you're signed in to Google Play Games and you shouldn't have to worry about losing game data

Most apps I really care about tend to have their own cloud backup so it isn't usually a big deal.

Adding to the above replies. This Google back ups it has been a mystery.
They don't popup any Notification-That a particular number of apps
were Backed up. What I know in the case of Samsung phones

If you Signed up to the Samsung account. You can back its apps data
using Kies-3..Only experts can say if Google back ups work

This is why I love iCloud backup and iTunes backups. The only way to get a true backup on Android is to root and use TitaniumBackup Pro.
