Does google maps work properly?

I have read that this phone does not have a compass but it has GPS so I was wondering how google maps works?

Google maps works by GPS. If by properly you mean user-friendly, no, it's user-hostile. But installing MyDirections makes it a usable app. (You have a list of locations with names like your Contacts app has a list of phone numbers with names - tapping a location runs Maps with the location set to navigate to. Set the defaults to car and navigate in MyDirections' settings.)
