Does Hulu Plus consider the Chromecast a mobile device? Can i now watch shows restricted to PC?

Clearly the Chromecast is NOT a mobile device, since it has to be plugged into the back of a TV.
Unless people have started walking around with 50" LCT TVs. :D :D :D

I'm just wondering if today's update allows the Chromecast to stream shows that Hulu Plus blocked
for mobile devices(phones, tablets). I'm talking about the shows that are restricted for playback
on PC and laptops only.

While the Hulu Plus still needs to be controlled from a mobile device, I sure hope that it makes an
exception for streaming via the Chromecast.

I'm on a business trip to LA and HNL right now and won't be home until next week, so I can't try
it out yet.

Thanks! :)

Just a guess, but I'm thinking mobile devices that control Chromecast will still be blocked. Haven't had a chance to check it out, but you are still using a mobile device to access Hulu.

True... but I'm hoping the Hulu Plus will be smart enough to make the distinction. (yeah, I know... wishful thinking :) )

Doubt it. The restriction isn't strictly mobile devices. Apple TV, Roku and the PS3 also have the same restrictions. So basically it's more like a "non-PC device" restriction.

@fabiosan, Haven't run into any lately but I think 30 Rock and Chuck were restricted to PCs only. But honestly I think I haven't run into any because I don't use Hulu on PC much anymore, so I don't even see the extra shows available.

Oh no doubt... I'd like to see the same functionality. Actually, like a few other members here, I'm waiting for the Chrome browser on tablets to support Chromecast(ing).

My co-worker just tested it. The answer, unfortunately, is NO. :( Videos that play fine on the PC cannot be streamed on mobile device via Chromecast. I guess Hulu doesn't have the rights to do so.

What shows are restricted?

I have yet to have a problem with my hulu+ account restricting me.

Example: "Project Runway" and "Modern Marvels"

They can't be found from the Hulu Android app on smartphone or tablet.

If you log into Hulu Plus on a PC web browser, you can find these shows. It will say "We currently don't have the rights to make this show available on your TV or mobile devices — request to be notified if it becomes available in Hulu Plus." The shows can be watched on a PC. :)

Just chiming in. This issue has nothing to do with Hulu Plus as much as the licensing agreement restrictions imposed on them.

i.e. A & E wants more money than Hulu is willing to pay or can pay to open up licensing on those shows.
