This sounds silly I know, but doing side by side speed tests on Moto X updated to KitKat, and LG G2 running 4.1.2, the Moto X showed speeds of 27.5 Mbps while the G2 showed 3.51. Both on Verizon 4G LTE. Explain please.

Wait the G2 is on 4.1? Thats akward.. Anyways no. This difference is because Motorola has the best radios for cell reception, end of story there. Plus the Moto X features dual-LTE antennas.

Sorry for the typo, I meant 4.2.2. The Moto X had speeds of approximately 5-6 Mbps before the update. I will run it against another Motorola device, but really I can't believe that it's just the antenna difference from Motorola to LG that causes that large of a gap in speeds.

No it doesn't, it does depends on the radio that come with the updates sometimes. Also you're on Verizon with a Motorola so expect good speed.

Very true, I do expect good speed. But to see a 20 Mbps increase after the update? It had to have been a fluke.

There is something wrong with your LG if you are only getting LTE download speeds of 3.51GB consistently. With full bars on my LG Nexus 5 I am seeing pretty consistent 20+ GB speeds. That sounds like 3G. Do you have LTE enabled on your phone?

Thank you for that, yes LTE is enabled.
