All the tools and phone information I gather directly from my phone suggest 384. Can anyone verify the ram on the phone?

Where do you gather that?

If it is from the Settings > Applications > Running Services then you have a TON of things running.

Just because it has 512MB, doesn't mean you should have 512 used the whole time.

I typically run with about 180-200 used (including what it calls both available and in-use). That actually leaves about 300MB free... but I don't have all that many apps installed, just 20 or so.

The phone has 512 in it. Only 384 is available for use. I've read that it's due to the inability of Samsung to make it use the total amount. I tend to believe that they other 128ish is reserved for system tasks. So any memory utility you use will show you around 300.

it has to do with eclair, not samsung. when froyo comes out itll be able to utilize the full 512.

Thanks.I hope Froyo fixes it. If I restart all of the AT&T crap ware leaves me with less than 100 mb free.

Well you can root the phone, get rid of the bloatware, quit using the stock e-mail client and run Maildroid which seems to be way better and not a memory hog.. Now when I run a Advanced Task Killer, I get 135 - 150 mb of free memory...
