Does Samsung Gear S3 Work with Pixel 2s?

Lately the answer phone on phone is working also... I just had a call, I went to my watch to do send to phone and did not have the option so I answered phone and they could hear me.

So I guess if the watch is saying send to phone, then send to phone, if not, it will work?

I don't get a ton of phone calls so my testing is limited.

Anyone else having better luck with the watch phone voice connection lately?

There is a fault to your Theory receiving calls might work but making calls on the phone will fail you won't be able to hear not a hundred percent of the time though just enough to be really annoying.
You do everything from the watch phone call Wise seems to be fine it's just necessary to use the phone sometimes that's where the fail comes in.
Zero confidence in Google and fixing this problem

My problem with the combination of Pixel 2, and Gear S3 is adding Apple Airpods to the equation. I was experiencing persistent audio issues with phone calls and music because the phone doesn't handle being paired with two Bluetooth devices that are both audio capable. I would place a call on the phone and not hear anything. It would often take several attempts, sometimes with party I had called returning my call to trigger the phone audio to dominate normally. Trying to use Airpods was equally frustrating as they would work intermittently but I could never figure out why they didn't work all the time. Then I stumbled across a series of posts describing issues with multiple Bluetooth connections including one to watch. Once I turned off receiving calls on the watch, the phone call audio became 100 reliable as did the behavior of the Airpods as a Bluetooth audio source for either phone calls or music. My take is you just have to choose between using your watch to take phone calls or using a Bluetooth headset such as the Airpods. I just don't think Google seems to support multiple competitive Bluetooth devices well. Samsung Pay send to work well with the Pixel 2 and Gear SEE for me. Near 99% acceptance. A few terminals don't work with the S3 but after using Apply Pay for a while, Samsung Pay at 99% acceptance is still head and shoulders more universally accepted. Ironic since Apple watch so much more common on wrists.

Well said my exact experience however I enjoy taking calls on my watch so I left pixel(and other BT issues on the pixel) , a work around for SP is to also have Android pay set up on your phone for tap and pay terminals like gas pumps also with SP if you choose credit instead of pin most of the time it's quicker and easier

You will also only have the most recent texts show on the watch.

Hoping JR or someone might clarify or update on the above.

Is this still an issue with Tizen 3 and Oreo 8.0 and above? If so, could someone clarify and expand on what this means? Does this mean only the most recent 5 or so messages are viewable on the S3 watch or?

I'm not concerned with accessing every text I have (I would go to my Pixel for that). However, I do want to be able to look at my wrist and view the most recent dozen or so messages that came in while I'm in a meeting.

Many thanks in advance.

When I receive a text I can see the text that came through and respond. if I try to access a previous message from that person it tells me to check my phone.
I will try to refrain from checking texts on my watch until I receive a few today to see if I can access multiple texts. I always check them pretty quickly so I can't remember how multiple work.

You can use your points now through the gear app. They will still be there if you get a galaxy phone and accessable in the full app also.

Thanks JR! This is of key interest to me and I really appreciate your reply and assistance.

Could you clarify a little more on the Samsung points? Are you saying that with the S3 and Pixel combo, that you may accrue as well as spend just as one could with a Samsung phone could? Or, are you saying you can accrue, but the redemption options would be limited and that the points could just sit there until you had a Galaxy phone to redeem?

Many thanks again.

You can accrue points by using the watch to make purchases. You can then use the gear app to redeem those points. This wasn't an option back when I first got the pixel at launch but Samsung updated the app around Nov/Dec to allow the gear phone app to redeem points.

The watch only shows the most recent text and no conversation thread either. Not sure if downloading the Samsung messenger would add the ability ability back in.

Thanks JR and I think I follow now. Seems like I saw somewhere (maybe in the Wearable/Samsung S3 forum) that folks were able to get message threads on the S3 paired with a non-Samsung phone, I believe using Textra. Might be worth a try.

Textra shows message threads on the watch. Confirmed.

Everything works fine with Pixel 2XL and Gear 3 except if I make a phone call with the watch connected. The person at the other end and I can not hear each other. So I need to remember to turn off bluetooth when making a call so the watch disconnects.

Answering calls seems to work properly most of the time.

I've had my Pixel 2 for a month now and I've had my Samsung S3 Frontier working with the phone since.

one thing i have noticed is i have my phone synced to my car and I'd say about 70-75% of the time, my car wont connect to my phone if i have my watch with me. i found it worked if i turn off my watch, start my car or search for my phone in my car and then turn on my watch. this never happened to me while using my Samsung S7 Edge.

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this, but it's about as good as any, I guess..

I have an S2 Classic and am on the P beta. After upgrading to P, the watch continued to work. Until, that is, I did a factory reset on my Pixel 2 XL. Now, the Gear S app crashes every time I try to pair the phone with the watch. My guess is that, if your watch is already paired when you go to P, you're OK, but there's some incompatibility between the app and P when it comes to pairing. I'd like to hope Samsung will eventually address this, but, given that there hasn't been an app update since last November, I'm not counting on it.

This is awesome news, thank you for posting. I just bought a Galaxy Watch and have a Pixel 2 XL.

I was thinking about getting a Galaxy Watch to replace my Fitbit Alta HR.
How much 'stuff' do you have to install to get it working fully?
