Does the Gallery app COPY the photos it displays to its own storage area?

I have a Lenovo 7000 with DropBox. All my Camera Uploads can bee seen in DropBox, but only the most recent are in the Gallery app. Since most (all) social media apps take Gallery as the source of any images to be uploaded, I now have access only to the most recent photos. So sending someone a profile picture take last year, for example, is impossible. Is this a flaw in Gallery? Or is there some way of getting Gallery to make ALL my DropBox photo history available?

Gallery does not have its own file area; it browses the whole storage.

Using a file manager app, check the contents of your DropBox folder. To conserve space it might be syncing only the recent files. If the old files are not on the phone, Gallery cannot see them.
