Was wondering because I wanted to root without a computer. I have 2.2 running reborn rom with gb mod, and was looking to upgrade.

From what your telling me your already rooted? I don't quite understand what your trying to do.

No Gingerbreak does not work with ZVH. Right now the only way to root ZVH is in the sticky [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH
you will need a pc to do so. I would suggest using KP500 and return to VC. Then you can return to stock recovery and use the update.zip for ZVH. I just did this last night. Once you are updated to ZVH you will need to push a few files from the sticky that was advised 2 comments up. Follow that guide and you will have your recovery and root by the end of it.
Just an FYI. Im advising stock recovery because if you try to flash the update.zip with xionia it will NOT flash the radio for ZVH and you will get no signal on the phone due to still running ZVD radio.

BTW you don't need a PC to revert to ZVD anymore. Can use the ZVD update.zip referenced in the ZVH thread. Still need a PC if you want to revert to something earlier than ZVD though.
That is interesting, does Sprint do something special with the normal OTA update.zip packages so you can't flash them from the Stock recovery to revert?
This is true, but the only exception is the latest ZVH update. Which makes sense as it's an entirely new Android version.

That is correct. Either you are on ZVH and already have stock (the ZVH update.zip won't run with custom recoveries) or you are some other version, where you are already rooted. If you are rooted, you can install stock recovery without a computer. Thus I said you can revert the ZVD without computer.
I was answering the previous question in the context with which it was asked rather than making a general statement about all update.zip
If making that general statement, there are actually 2 exceptions, the ZVH update.zip and the revert ZVD update.zip are both full installs. The rest of the OTA updates are all shipped as patch/diffs.
Not right now. You can do 98% of it without computer, but one critical step needs to go through adb, so you don't need a windows PC, but you do need adb.
