Been looking at specs all over the web today, not a thing I've found says otherwise, it does not have a infrared blaster?
HTC could've been one up on the S7.

It doesn't and look up tweets from HTC USA (@htcusa). I believe the mentioned that they didn't include it on the 10 because of how little it was used on previous devices.

Re: IR Blaster ?

I use it every day on my M8. The lack of IR blaster has me looking at other options besides the HTC 10. I've been with HTC for my last 3 phones, so it would be hard to get me to make the change, but the lack of IR blaster is huge for me.

Re: IR Blaster ?

Yes, the IR blaster is a deal breaker for me. I control my whole home theater and other things.
Currently have the S6, (has IR Blaster) when the S7 came out I was one click from ordering when I realized it was lacking. Was holding out for M10 so..
Maybe someday a flagship phone will have the IR back.

I believe the G5 still has it.

Re: IR Blaster ?

Seems like the OEMs are dropping ir blasters as old tech, but so many of our appliances are not connected to wifi yet?

dreaming of electric sheep

They have data showing how much it's used. It's not being used enough.

I use it every day on my G4. IR blaster should be in every flagship :'(

That's dumb on their part.

Re: IR Blaster ?

I find myself reaching for my remote although my phone is right in front of me. It's pointless simply because my remote control does everything my phone cannot do remote control wise. I don't want to have to pick up my remote because my phone can't be programmed to use one button that my remote can easily accomplish. Great idea but old habits with new tvs will always win out.

You may be more perfect than others but some of us misplace remotes, and then then, in a pinch, the IR blaster is indispensable! Also remotes break. My LCD TV outlived the remote, and the remote was difficult to replace.

Re: IR Blaster ?

I can confirm that the LG G5 does have an ir blaster. But you might have to get through a few handsets before you find one without build quality issues.

Re: IR Blaster ?

I don't think so. Do Motos have IR?

The LG G5 does have an IR blaster. It is the only flagship phone out that still has the IR blaster and a removable battery. If you don't care about those features almost all the other phones out including the HTC 10 have a sealed in battery and no IR blaster.

I'd like to know what your remote does which your phone can't do. I can use my M8 to do everything my Logitech Harmony One $200 remote can do and more. Using Unified Remote from Google Play I'm able to control my Onkyo receiver, Vizio TV, use my phone's screen as a mouse and keyboard, start and stop programs, control volume, etc. There's not a single button on any of my remotes which can't be controlled with the M8. Having an IR blaster built into the phone means I can jump in bed at night and surf on my phone and when it comes time to do anything on the htpc such as changing TV channels, turning everything off, etc. I don't have to reach for a remote. All I have to do is use my phone. If my M8 made me retire my Logitech Harmony One remote then it would have to be something worth having on a flagship today. If HTC was showing it wasn't being used then I'm guessing they were just using data based on usage from the built in app and not from better apps that can be had on Google Play or lack of advertising on what the feature could do.

Here's one of my M8's home pages with my remote layout. With it I can turn my tv on/off, Onkyo receiver on/off, launch my movie program on my pc along with navigate & start/stop/pause, control volume, etc. I can also launch all my programs on my pc and use my phone as a mouse and keyboard. Can you do this with a normal remote control? Too bad HTC has dropped the IR blaster with the HTC 10
