Does the LGV20 really needs protection?

It's everyone's obsession with a metal phone, doing nothing of benefit to anyone. Moto phones have some nice grippy backs. I loved how the Nexus 5 and 7 felt. For metal phones, I've used the V20 and HTC 10 and it's ridiculous how slippery they are.

Metal better than glass at least IMO. You can install a good skin wrap that has better grip texture. Or buy a slim case.

For all the "ive dropped it so many times and its fine" posts, lol...

Literally the 3rd day I had this phone upon release, had it in my shirt pocket. Forgot and bent over to pick something up. Fell out, face down, and screen totally shattered. First (and last) time I tried to use a phone caseless (speck I prefer) and without a screen protector (skinomi).

Any phone can shatter the screen if it lands the right away, except Motos with shatter shields.

Completely agree Mike. My example is def not a knock on the phone build, but aimed more towards the examples of this phone as some Unbreakable super phone. Certainly if you drop it and it lands the right way yes pieces can fall off and you can put it back together and go on your way... But there is also just as good of a chance if the screen falls down face first and hits the right thing it's going to break no doubt. I had insurance on my phone so getting it replaced wasn't that big of a deal I just had to pay the deductible but it just seemed there was way too many examples in this thread that made the phone seemed indestructible without a case and that certainly is not the truth.
