Does the Note 3 exhibit input lag while scrolling?

Hello,

I'm considering a switch from an iPhone to the Note 3. I've switched back and forth between iPhones and Android phones a number of times over the years. While I've really enjoyed my experiences with Android, every Android phone has exhibited milliseconds of input lag / delay while scrolling. Foolish as it is, this is primary reason I keep crawling back to IOS (as it does not exhibit this behavior).

I'm told this has been addressed as hardware has gotten progressively faster, but I'm not convinced the input lag is hardware related.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this matter.

Thank you.

I can safely say that there has been no input lag or scroll lag on Android for a couple years now. The last phone I recall having with this was the OGDroid. But since that, things have been fine. The keyboard is slower than iPhone without a question. SImply because the screen registers input slower (hardware not software) but not at the point where you would notice it anymore.

I went to ATT today and played with the N3 demo. It had no lag at all. Next to it was S4 and that lagged easily.

You should turn off animation delays from the developers menu. You may access it by touching the firmware number 7? times and going back one level. Note 3 has Super fast scrolling after that .

Can't judge a phone based on a floor unit though, they have that so loaded up it isn't even funny. Not to mention everyone comes in and plays with it. I have the S4 and there is literally ZERO lag.

Don't believe anything anyone says. I can guarantee that every Android device still stutters while scrolling in most apps and there is very noticeable input latency of 150ms to 300ms on most devices versus the iPhone's 50ms.

Even the latest Nexus 5 scroll lags severely in the browser as mentioned in The Verge's review. This is on a new phone. As you install more apps, there will be constant stuttering and freezing throughout the OS while performing the most basic of tasks. There is no comparison to the smoothness of iOS whatsoever (Only iPhone 5 or later. The 4S and earlier are slower than Android 2.3 on the bloated iOS 7).

I have noticed lag on my note 3, just a very bit. Oh i noticed lag on my z10, on a z30, on an iphone 5, 5s and 5c.

There's lag when scrolling but you actually have to look closely for it. I'm some one who had every iPhone from 1-5 then the HTC one which actually is absolutely lag free (HTC software perfection) and is spoken about in all the reviews. But there is very little lag in the note 3 and I can honestly say I think it's the best phone I've ever had.

My HTC Amaze with only dual core doesn't lag, so a note 3 shouldn't

I never understand people who ask a question and then go on and answer it themselves. Why waste people's time if you already have your mind made up. If those milliseconds are that important to you then keep using what you're using and move on.

This lag that people speak of doesn't seem significant to me.It is barely noticeable and believe me, lag exists on the iPhone as well. My iPhone 5 lagged at times too. It will happen. But I think more is made of the lag than is necessary. The Note 3 is a great device. And if there was another device to try to do what the Note 3 can do it would probably shut the phone down.

To put it into perspective I get lag on my quad core 3.6Ghz i5 PC as well. But in all seriousness... coming from an S2 to the Note 3, there is much much less lag on the Note 3. Even while multi-tasking.

I don't see any lag really. Running Nova Launcher.

Slow downs are acceptable but the constant delay between your finger and the screen responding is not. Neither is the scroll stuttering during zero CPU usage.

iOS is still smoother on touch response and scrolling. There is very slight lag for scrolling on my Note 3 but it's slight enough it doesn't bother me. Project Butter's improvements helped a lot. It's more lag with Touchwiz than pure Android IMHO. But iPhones still have significantly faster touch response.

iPhone 5 Touch Screen Twice as Fast as Android Touch Screen - Mac Rumors

When you touch and drag on the Note 3, there is a very slight hesitation, then it jumps to where your finger has moved and continues smoothly from there. Try different speeds of drags and you're more likely to see it. It seems to me to be Touchwiz trying to decide if you're making a long press, or have moved your finger to drag.

If this has been your key issue in waffling between iOS and Android, you will continue to waffle for now.

You got that right. The amount of customization and options on the Note 3 is staggering.

This is just the "Vitalij" value or move hysteresis. This can be reduce to zero using several apps or kernels so the screen scrolls immediatelly instead of waiting for a minimum distance of finger movement. However even before this, there is a constant 150ms delay for all touch operations including tapping.

Yes, that's in my link. But it's not 150 across the board. The high end Samsungs are closing in the 100 ms mark and most of the big name phones are less than 150 as well. The iphone 5 is 55 ms.
