Just wondering if anyone else is having trouble with the official asus dock. I went back to 4.1.2 because of all of the problems with 4.2. Which I have to say made this tablet so much better. I have tried plugging it into the wall as well as my pc, but it does nothing.I was reading the specs on it and it says 4.2 under the os label. The audio out doesn't work either. I was wondering if that is why it took so long to come out with a dock for it. because it needed the software update first.

The chatter is unclear...but most seem to think that PROPER functionality requires 4.2

so there you are...

edit:
do me a favor and try to use something in the OTG plugged in microUSB like a keyboard or flash drive while charging using the dock and let me know what happens please !!!!

No it doesn't. It's strange. My laptop sees the nexus but no access to the internal storage until i remove it from the dock. then it shows up. I really hope they come out with a 4.2.2 version that fixes the bugs soon. because except for the dock issue, it work flawlessly on the 4.1.2 version.

thanks for that - that's the kind of thing most folks are encountering with the dock.

Unless you have a specific issue with 4.2, that update seems to work fine for most folks. There was an issue with some Bluetooth devices is the only thing I recall still unfixed for many, but it took a month or two before all the broken apps I had were fixed.

good luck with your N7 and enjoy !

In answer to those age old questions....

Q: Is the Pope a Catholic?
A: Yes

Q: Do bears **** in the woods?
A: Yes

Q: Do the N7's own sockets work when the device is being charged via the dock?
A: Yes....

....to the extent I've tested it.

Scenario: Nexus 7 sat on dock, being charged via the mains, OEM cable plugged in to the dock. OTG cable plugged in to the N7's own power/data socket.

Mouse receiver plugged in to the OTG - wireless mouse works on the N7. Don't have a wired mouse, nor a keyboard (wired or wireless), but see no reason why either wouldn't work too. Whether you could run adapters for both mouse and keyboard, wired or wireless, don't know.

Flash drive plugged in to the OTG. Via Nexus Media Importer, jpegs and mp4's work fine. No audio unless a speaker or earphones are plugged in to either the dock, or the N7's own audio output. The N7's own audio socket does work whilst the device is being charged.

Dock plugged in to PC USB. N7 shows it's charging, but does not appear as an attached device. That said, I'm not sure why you'd connect the dock that way. You'd just connect the N7 directly via USB, no? You'd still get charging(albeit slower) , and can drag n drop in the usual way.

Haven't tried anything more. I'm retired so I don't have to worry about work type docs or sync'ing or any of that malarkey, just my own entertainment content. And that works fine. YMMV.

HTH.
