Maybe I'm naive but I've never heard of digital image stabilization. Seems like a downgrade from optical image stabilization.

That's what confuses me too. It is a downgrade. The S6, which uses a lower MP Sony Camera has better quality pics and particularly videos than the Z3, Z3+, and Z4v because Sony insists on not using OIS. Very strange place to cut a corner.
