AC Question

My smasung galaxy s5 charger port is broken. I was wondering if I will buy a usb 3.0 port will it charge with the smaller port only working.

Not likely.
Looking at a pinout diagram of the USB 3.0 Micro B connector, the larger side appears to be responsible for power delivery, with the smaller side for data.

Depending on the nature of the damage, I am not sure what the consequences might be when trying.

However as the battery is removeable, a battery charging dock might allow you to charge the battery externally, bypassing the port.

If the aim is to transfer data from the device, I would not be happy trying that via a cable.
Do it via the MicroSD card, and a USB Card Reader if you can.

And when you describe "buying a port", did you just mean a matching cable, USB 3.0 Micro B on the phone end, and USB A on the other.
My advice is based on assuming that.

A micro USB (the one that's used on 99% of all other phones) plugs into the smaller side (the right side) of the charging port. If this is what you're referring to, then it will transfer data as well as charge the device. Use a power brick though and not a computer so you will get full power (will charge faster).
