It hasn't officially been released where I live either, but I do get 4G in quite a few places.

Oh, and here's your pic:

ah! so jealous of you. i'm in the 1 part of Charlotte that does NOT have 4g--and go fig--it's where i live. of course.

question: i know keeping your 4G on drains the battery--but is that only if you're accessing that 4g network to surf the web/use the phone?

follow up: is there a way to conserve battery but still be notified when a 4g network is available? (i know that after turning 4g ON, you can edit settings>notify me when network available))--but i want to save my battery by living on 3g and simply be notified "4g available"--and switching on the 4g radio for that period of time.

anyone? anyone? bueler?

thanks in advance!

the 4g radio kills the battery when it is searching for a singal. leave it off unless you have a singal. when it's connected with a solid signal, it doesn't bother the battery too much, imo.

right--understood

BUT
let's assume my 4g is turned off in the morning.
i go about my usual business in the day.
will the phone display a "4g" icon in the notification bar (or anything) telling me a 4g network is in range--at which point i can Turn On 4g (via the 4g widget) and connect--thereby negating draining my battery by turning on 4G in the morning and praying i come in contact with a signal.

this way, i can keep my battery level high and only turn on 4g when i'm in confirmed network area.

no, if 4g is off it will not search for the network or display that its available.

Only way to find 4G is with a service like Sensorly Map service, or, just turn it on and see if it connects.

blast. i'll have to look in to Sensorly Map

after switching from the Moment to the Evo, download speeds are already twice as good, if not better...

just wanting to try out some of that sweet 4g people are experiencing

Not surprised you're getting it in the Bronx. I get 10+mb/s all over Jersey City. It's only a matter of time before Sprint makes 4g official in NYC.
