Does TMobile Throttle Unlimited Data?

Tmobile wont throttle until you hit 5gb, but walmart (Straight Talk) might throttle you daily. My experience with ST is that it sucks.

I'd recommend Tmo direct or Solavei (who does not throttle until you hit 4gb). For the money, Solavei seems to have the best deal out there. I don't use them, but that's only because I hardly ever talk to people on my phone.

You're right. But that's a different plan.

Got concerned for a minute. I Just signed up for the "truly unlimited plan like a week and a half ago. I was about to go start reading fine print one more time.

If they throttle you, is it still fast enough to make a call using bobsled?

They only throttle data, and that is throttled to 2G (EDGE) speeds. I've never gone over 1 gig though so I wouldn't know exactly what happens.

Calls using bobsled are VoIP so they use data. Are 2G edge speeds fast enough to do VoIP calls?

There are a lot of threads about VoIP calls using data on that $30 plan. In general it all depends on your area and your tolerance for unpredictable call quality. I tested GrooveIP when considering that plan. For me call quality was fine over wifi, but really suffered on data, especially if moving - and that was unthrottled data. I don't know what 2g would do.

So tell me about Solavei.

They are a T-Mobile MVNO. It's $49 for unlimited talk/text/data unthrottled for 4GB. They also have a referral program which can effectively lower this rate.

I switched in January, and it's been a big improvement over Sprint.

Any specific questions?

how is it better than the Tmobile $30 walmart plan (is it just the minutes) or other Tmobile MNVOs like straight talk?

Solavei has more minutes than the $30 plan, and more data than the $50 or $60 plans from T-Mobile. Solavei also supports conditional call forwarding, and 2g data roaming in service partner areas. Neither of those are available on the prepaid side of T-Mobile.

Straight Talk won't tell you how much data you get, which is just crazy.

Solavei's $49 plan is unlimited minutes 4GB of unthrottled data.

T-Mobile's $30 plan is 100 minutes and 5GB of unthrottled data.

So, the Solavei plan is only better if you like to talk, such that the 100 minutes on T-Mobile's plan isn't enough for you.

If you're not much of a talker and are more interested in data, then T-Mobile's plan is better, especially since it's 50% cheaper.

The only true unlimited plan is the $70 plan. I used up 7.8GB in my first month and it never slowed down.

The $30 plan only includes 5GB at 4G speeds, after you get edge speeds.
