Updating to OS 2.3.6 to 4.0

I have a "Samsung Galaxy Note original GT-N7000" which is on OS 2.3.6 but since there is an update available (OS 4.0) however I have one question before I update it does it wipe all the data? I really don't want it to be wiped clean :(

Welcome to Android Central! Official system updates that are delivered over the air should not wipe out any of your data. That being said, there have been some occasions where people have complained about losing important data after an update. So to be safe, do the following:

1. Make sure all of your data is synced or backed up before the reset. Google data (like contacts, emails, etc.) will be synced automatically to your Google account. Use Kies to back up other data to the computer.

2. If you have an SD card, unmount it (in Settings>Storage) and remove it before doing the update. Some people report SD card corruption during an update.

3. Then go ahead and do the system update. When complete, reinsert the SD card.
