Does using Ringo app disable settings in Assist?

Have been trying to set custom text message alerts for each contact and finally downloaded Ringo to do this. I also have Google Assist set up to Silent all calls during working hours. On lunch I set up Ringo with defaul ringtone and message alerts and also set some custom ones. Come back to work and my phone loudly announces I have a text, even though I can see that Assist does see I'm in a meeting. Does Ringo override Google Assist?
