Does using S Beam also consume data?

As the title says, I have 8GB of data on my plan, does using S Beam use up some of the data?

It is peer to peer data exchange. That is why wifi or NFC has to be enable. It won't nor can't use mobile data.

One more question actually. When using S beam, do we have to have the 2 phones near each other once it says incoming beam? My friend was giving me a movie, we put our phones together and he sent it and then we took our phones away and they aren't close anymore. And my phone says incoming beam. Is that it? I just have to wait now? We don't have to be in the same area anymore right?
