Does virus really affect smart phones?

I connected my nexus 5 to my PC ..I'm not sure if the computer is affected by virus but I experienced a little lag my N5 .
Does virus really affect android phones?

Welcome to Android Central! Exactly what behavior on your computer or your phone makes you think you may have a virus?

Currently, malware on Android devices is fairly easy to avoid--you need to make sure you install apps from trusted sites only (like Google Play Store), and don't click on random popups that might come up on your screen from potentially malicious websites. Make sure you turn on "Verify Apps" in Settings>Security--this lets Google scan your phone periodically for malware, which makes 3rd party antivirus apps mostly unnecessary.
