The htc charger is great but i want another charger and im goin 3rd party , the htc charger is for home and the 3rd party is for work ............. Heres the problem i had the HERO b4 i got my EVO, so i bought a 3rd party charger to keep at work ...............and it GLITCHED my phone so bad that i couldnt even unlock the lock screen! ((it was a rapid charger and chargered faster then the main charger did )) so maybe that extra rapid power glitched the system.............anyway it took like 5 to 7 attemps on the lock screen !! and texting was even worst. I know the EVO is made better then the HERO............but does the 3rd party chargers do the same thing to the EVO ???

I have 3 or 4 3rd party chargers that I have bought from ebay and other sources. Some for as little as $3. all work fine-just a little slower.

I'm using a couple chargers I had left over from my Palm Pre. No problems.

I don't know what's different about a "rapid charger", but I'd be leery of any charger that put out more than 1 amp for fear of burning out the charging circuit in the phone. But even there I wouldn't expect the symptoms you describe. I'm not an EE, but I'd look to what software you have installed.

My EVO will occasionally glitch when I first plug it into the wall charger that came with the phone. After a few seconds it stops and workds normal. My guess is its thinking about its new connection, so its using a lot of processing power or something, who knows...

i have an old mini(not micro) usb car charger that i used for my old htc xv6800. i bought a mini-to-micro usb adapter and when i plugged it into my evo, Car Panel opened up. i was like wth?? needless to say, i stopped using that charger because it took like 30 mins to charge it 5%.

on topic: i've never had any problems using my old palm pre car and home chargers.

I have one that I bought from Sprint that I use at work, and sometimes when plugging it in the wall it would switch to the usb debugging for some strange reason. I unplug and try it again and it's fine. Plus I have to be careful with it because it doesn't seem to fit in the charging port correctly.

Go to cellphoneshop.net and look under HTC Evo-theynhave all kinds of accessories including travel chargersnfor $2.99. Another great supplier is mono cable.

Hmm... I haven't noticed any glitches using the Kindle's mini-usb charger either. haven't tried any other "non-HTC" chargers...

It is a Sprint brand I also had one from my BB and it worked great with it until I broke it!:(

I purchased a Retractable Travel Charger P/N TCHA-HTCEV1RET from CellPhoneShop, and when connected to the phone and an AC outlet the phone locks up.

I have never had any issues with 3rd party chargers, and I have owned maaany cell phones in the past. I have used a 3rd party charger on my Evo, and (knock on wood) it has done its job glitch free to date.

this is why i only buy HTC or Sprint OEM Chargers.

you guys always trying to save a nickel with a $700 phone are penny wise and pound foolish.

I have a dock from ebay seller "nakedcellphone" as well as the 2 batteries and charger combo from seller "tuttoit", both of which have been pretty well regarded on this and other (XDA) forums, and each of which separately, I have been very pleased with.

I have however recently experienced the exact same "glitching" that the OP discusses, when I tried using the battery charger I got from tuttoit as my AC adapter, and then plugging the USB cable from my dock into that charger as the charger has a USB out. I was doing this to essentially get a set up where my AC adapter was charging one spare battery, then through it's USB output, my dock would charge another spare battery, in addition to the phone. Essentially getting the phone and two spare batteries all charged through one AC outlet. (might have overdone it a bit there)

Since just plugging the usb cable from my dock into my HTC adapter, and separating the charger and second battery, all seems to be well.

My wife's HTC EVO locks up when using the stock HTC charger that came with the phone brand new in the frozen dinner carton. I didn't believe her at first but she showed me and sure enough the stock charger does in fact lock her EVO up. Gonna try a factory reset and see if that fixes it.
