Does Your Phone Make Appearances in Your Dreams?

I have vivid, detailed dreams that mostly follow a coherent narrative. I dream in color. I frequently have lucid dreaming where I know I am dreaming and change the plot line of my dreams.

I sometimes have dreams where I am reading the newspaper or watching TV and the media I'm viewing in my dreams makes sense (mostly). Consider--my subconscious mind is writing scripts to be used as props in my dreams.

The latest "prop" that is appearing more and more in my dreams is my cell phone.

You ever have a dream where you are lost and can't find your way home? Or landmarks aren't where they belong and you get confused while driving? This is a recurring dream for me. (No psychoanalysis, please!) This type of dream is disconcerting, sometimes bordering on a nightmare. But in recent dreams I just pull out my phone and consult Google Maps!

In real, wakeful life I read news apps on my phone and Twitter is used as a news source. In my dreams I've found I'm reading the news on my phone and incidents of newspaper reading are down.

I just woke up from a crazy dream where I dreamt my phone had an app that displayed the history log of my phone calls as a scrollable timeline of images of the person I talked with along with a short sentence summarizing the conversation superimposed over their photo. If I tapped on the person's image I could replay the conversation. Google, are you listening?

Up until I got my Pixel 2 XL I don't remember ever having a dream where I used my cell phone. Since Pixel 2 XL it's happening about once per week. When I contemplate the implications of this it could veer into nightmare territory!

I find it odd that with previous phones I hadn't dreamt about my phone but lately these dreams are quite frequent.

Anybody else have your phone playing a prominent role in your dreams?

This is a fun idea that might have real potential. Imagine if you see something like this in a year or two.
You can say, "Hey, that was my dream!"

Yes, the thought had occurred to me.

On a related note, I experience deja vu quite a bit and I figure it's because I dreamt something similar recently and then experience it in "real life".

The times I had deja vu and figured out where I experienced the situation or something similar, it has been a past dream.

I don't dream about phones. Only me and playboy models.

I've seen a lot of forum posts in my time, but this is a first! I can't say I've ever had my phone come up in my dreams.

I don't dream really. It's super rare for me to remember a dream.

I dream pretty frequently. It's a rare occasion for me to have a dream where my cell phone doesn't make an appearance. Kinda glad I read this post. Thought I was the only one that had dreams with a regular cast member being my phone....

It should be normal. Considering that depending on our daily work/life, phones can be extensions of ourselves. So as we see ourselves in dreams, we see our phones.

Anyway, phones in dreams aren't new. I mean in the very first episode of FRIENDS Chandler dreamt of being naked and having a ringing phone there instead of a p*nis.

Yes, you would think so. But, until just recently I can't recall having a dream involving my phone and I've had a cell phone since the mid-90's.

How many times do people dream about their jobs/workplace? I rarely have dreams about my current job, but the job I left years ago--have dreams about it a couple times a week.

You probably did but just don't remember the dream

No, no, nope. I have detailed, vivid, memorable dreams. I dreamt of my former job just last night. I pointed out to a scientist I was working with that the chemical reaction experiment he was working on should be conducted in a vented fume hood. (He was mixing chemicals into a beaker on a hot plate with a built-in magnetic stirrer platform.) And what was he doing in our lab? We are a materials research division, not a chemical research area.

I myself was conducting experiments on measuring the elasticity and compressibility of a putty-like substance. I was wearing a tie under my lab coat (which I never did on this job) and a baseball cap. I could continue to elaborate, but I think you get the point.

Meanwhile, no dreams about my current job, small business owner, in months.

But we don't remember all dreams

My dreams usually have a lot to do with my work. I've been a carpenter for 38 years now and I mainly work on kitchen and bath remodels. My mind doesn't shut down very often or even slow. My wife always gets on me when she sees me drifting off because she knows that I'm running the next day on the job through my head. I like to have a pretty regimented plan for my day to day work activities. Can't always follow it to the letter due too unforseeables but keeps me on track for the most part.

That's usually where my phone comes into play. I use it to remember things a lot. I'll pull it out in my dreams to check for notes and reminders that I made from the day before. I constantly have deja Vu during the day because I just dreamed it the night before.

Thing is, my phone seems to change all the time in my dreams. Maybe because I have a bad habit of doing the same in real life.... But that's another thread - of nightmares....
