Sorry another dumb question. So just rooted my Kindle Fire and wanted to install things like foursquare, instagram (just to look at my pics etc), but they don't come up in the android market. If I browse it online they do but if I try to install them it says they're not compatible with my device. Do I just need to find the apk files for them online somewhere to install?

I found a few, like instagram installed fine but foursquare said unable to install. I found Google Maps online but it crashes as soon as I launch it.

I know you can sideload dolphin browser because I use it on my Fire. Do you have an adroid phone? That's how I got the ask to install.

Hi tmn

No I'm using stock kindle fjre jjust rooted. I don't care about the amazon apps as I'm kn Canada so cant use them anyway. I was.looking at some.of those new Roms like you mentioned but I noticed it said that things like netflix wont work. That's not the end of the world but I do like netflix. Are there any other major things that wont work on it? Like is it just netflix or does it mean it wont play video at all?

One last question as well. Can I do a "dump" and save my current system so of I dint like a custom Rom I can easily restore it? Or do I have to start from scratch? I don't mind stock but ill admit this keyboard is a bit annoying. I hit period all the time by mistake.

So I just went ahead and did it. So far so good! Only thing is can I unlock it so that when I am on the desktop it doesn't lock to landscape mode? I love having it in portrait due to the screen size but cant figure this out. I installed the GO Launcher EX which supports this and I have no problem using it, I find it looks nicer anyway so not a big deal but just curious if the normal android one can do it.

Also when I press and hold home it just shows 8 icons for recent apps which is fine, but on other tablets I've seen that icon in the bottom where it looks like 2 windows overtop each other and when they press them it shows all the running apps on the left, like on the Galaxy Tab? Is that just a feature of certain tablets? Can't seem to find a video that shows that, but it's basically bottom left has back, home, then the "app switcher"?
