Hey all!

I'm a new user here, and I've only had my Hero for a couple of weeks. I have been studying for the last 2 days on the BEST way to root the Hero (Sprint). It appears it comes down to 2 different methods. Flashrec method discussed here:

Step By Step Way to root Using Flashrec(Updated 4/5) - xda-developers

Or the SDK method discussed in this forum here:

I am pretty PC savvy, so I'm not intimidated by these things, but the flashrec method seems so much quicker. Is there an advantage to one over the other?

Sure glad I started researching this topic before installing the leaked RUU from Sprint..... :)

TIA!

I auto rooted with Fresh pre kitchen. I think it's called Fresh Kitchen now with a whole new version.
I then flashed Fresh 1.1 ROM.
I am now running Damageless 2.08.1 and waiting for the latest release to drop.

I just stumbled onto that as well....looks like there is a 3rd method. I'm a little concerned with fully automated things. Watching the Youtube of it now.....

Thanks!

Ive used all ways to root the kitchen does it pretty easy.

Yeah...no kidding. Auto rooting plus a whole lot more functionality! It's a pretty sweet program. It will be even better as more options are included for building a 2.1 ROM. :)

I think I may go with Kitchen if I decide to go the root route

If I need to learn the adb stuff later on, I can always dig in at that point :)

Thanks for the help guys!

Sweet,if you get stuck or need more help, just ask.

My understanding is the old pre kitchen is prehistoric compared to the new program.
I may check it out myself in the near future.
I'm also curious about the FreshToast ROM due out soon.
All that stuff is @ geekfor.me
