Bricked Fascinate 1

I too need to unbrick my phone. I don't supposed one could be constructed from the system dump that's been posted in another thread in this sub-forum?

What I did:
1) Rooted the phone
2) Used titanium backup to uninstall various pieces of verizon bloatware (without backup)
3) Wondered how the factory restore function would affect all the stuff I did including the rooting
4) Found out that 3) will cause your phone to boot to nothing but an endless spawning array of error pop-ups. **I now understand that this is referred to as a force close loop.**
5) Spent the past 24 hours scouring the internet looking for potential fixes.

I tried building my own update.zip file that replaced the system directory with a known working copy of the entire directory. However, the update.zip file won't verify. I guess it's not being signed correctly despite that fact that I followed directions that are consistent across multiple websites.

Is there a newer signing .jar file out there?

Do you need to sign in a special way for the Fascinate to accept an update.zip file?

Well, at least you put the effort in! I just assumed it wouldn't get signed correctly, and gave up. :)

Off to VZW in ~20 minutes.. I'm interested to see their reaction to a bricked Fascinate 4 days after launch.. ;)

I think it's one of those things.. Anyone doing any serious experimentation has to brick one sometime. Glad it was a quick recovery, I'm back up to 100% the way I had everything.

The Titanium Backup guy is getting some money from me for sure.

Oh, and for the record, I was trying to solve the last Bing issue.. If you search in the browser bar (type 'star fish' or something instead of ht tp : // google .c om) you still get taken to bing.

I tried replacing the Browser.apk and .odex with ones from the Vibrant system dump, and then rebooted.

Don't do that.

Where is the link to the thread about masterful resurrections of old, unrelated threads? I need to read up ;-)
