Double icons and icon counter?

Sorry if this has been asked before,

I have my text message icon in the app dock on the home screen. I then have the same text message icon thrown into a junk folder in the app drawer. When I get a text message, the icon alerts me on the home screen, and also advises via the counter on the message icon in the junk folder. Is there a way to hide the icon all together using stock touch wiz? I have used Nova and just hid apps, but was wondering if you can the same thing on stock Touch Wiz.

When you read the text message by opening the Messages app in the dock, does the notification count go away in the app icon that's in the Junk folder (assumes notification count is one)?

yes it does. Everything works fine I think, I guess to be more specific can you hide apps on the note 5. I thought you could on previous note models, but perhaps that feature was removed with 5.1.1?
