Downloading email attachments

I'm trying to view a Microsoft Word attachment from an email on a yahoo mail account. I click the attachment, which scans it for viruses, then gives me the option to Download File. When I click that, the browser starts to activate as if downloading the file, the URL tab comes down and the green line at the bottom starts moving, but then everything stops. It does not confirm with me that the file is downloading and I cannot find it anywhere, which leads me to believe that it was never downloaded. The more I click Download File, the less action happens. Does anyone know how to open attachments?
