Many times, after downloading a picture off Chrome by long-pressing, I cannot find the picture in any of my galleries. Other times I can find them in the main gallery or at least under Recents. Generally when I can find them, I had already gotten a notification telling my the pic has been downloaded.

I cannot make heads or tails out of this. Can anyone help?

Welcome to Android Central! It's important to distinguish when you're using the actual Google search app vs. the Chrome browser. If you're using the Google app to find an image, and then subsequently try to download that image, you have to make sure the Google app has Storage permission turned on (in Settings>Apps). If it doesn't, then images you download go to a protected system directory called /document, and only the Google app has access to it. If you turn on Storage permission, the downloads go to the usual /Download directory that you can access.

Thanks! I'll check that out.

When I got my Pixel 2 XL I was frustrated because I couldn't download images and save them to my gallery like my last phone. Then I discovered when in Chrome, long press to bring up the option to "share" then upload to "Photos". Sometimes takes a minute or two to show in all photos. I believe the image is saved in the cloud rather than on the phone so doesnt take up storage space.

Very helpful. Thank you!
