Hello folks, I have searched on and low but unable to find solution, basically i would like to download to PC old routes taken using Google maps.

Working off line is not really the best option nor is using Time Line which doesn't show roads travelled.

Many thanks,

David

Welcome to Android Central! Are you talking about your Timeline from Google Maps, or actual navigation routes that Maps gave you in the past?

Thanks for the welcome, yup, its > actual navigation routes that Maps gave you in the past?

Its this feature which I would like to re-create if possible on Google maps

https://gpstracklog.com/2010/10/archived-trip-logs-on-garmin-nuvis.html

Trip logs are points automatically stored when the GPS device is locked onto a satellite signal and moving. It is the electronic equivalent of laying down a "breadcrumb trail" to mark the path that has been traveled.

Your nuvi or zumo can store 10,000 points before it begins the process of archiving additional logs.* Beyond 10,000 points the device moves the oldest trip data into an internal archive file. Up to 20 archive files can be stored internally on the unit. This means, depending on space available, that the device can store over 200,000 points of trip data.

I don't think that's possible with Google Maps. You can use Your Timeline to see where you've been, but it won't give you specific navigation instructions you may have received to get around. If you install Waze, it looks like you can review previous Drives, but again, it doesn't look like it will show you the actual navigation instructions: https://support.google.com/waze/answer/6286275?hl=en

It's an interesting feature possibility -- I'd send feedback to Google about this!

Right, that gives where you visited, but I think the OP would like the actual navigation routes you took to get there.

Thanks for the replies, before i respond a quick mention of using the reply box - basically, I have to access my first post, click edit then save for this to appear - not sure what's ahppening there but logged in.

diddy, this feature was available on my old nuvi250w using mapsource, its an age since i used this unit but appears to no longer work - others are asking the same question about other units here

https://forums.garmin.com/apps-software/mac-windows-software/f/basecamp-windows/166888/importing-routes-from-device-nuvi250-using-bc

Its been suggested here that dedicated sat navs (not sure about Google Maps) save this data routinely into GPX file.

Timeline and similar offer point to point snap shots created as you drive, not sure what the slots are but it may work based on how long you stop at a way point.

You may wonder why i need this feature, travelling through parts of rural Wales some of the small villages are not marked on maps, roads are shown but again often unmarked - these roads are sometimes very steep or precarious making stopping difficult, traffic has to reverse to let cars pass so you do not want to stop unless you absolutely have to - taking snap shots of village names which can then be added in manually to travelled routes (or tracks on Garmin)

Thanks again for replies.

Sorry, I'm not aware of anything else besides using Google Maps Timeline. Let's see if anyone else has any input ...

If you tap the 3 dots in their shows a map view how you got there but not turn by turn direction unless you tap that in the menu there.
Edit: if that's not I'm not sure

Consider trying My Tracks. It's a 3rd party app that uses Google's old My Tracks name (which was shut down in 2016, presumably folded into Google Maps Timeline) and icon, but it seems like it has additional functionality, like being able to record a route.
