Doze won't work with Motorola 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade on the Moto G 2015

Please read link below (thanks to Acejavelin, member of this forum)

For some reason the engineers in charge of the upgrade code couldn't or didn't get it to work with the Moto G3, money ? hardware ? time ? resources ? The thing is a third party app can force Doze to trigger, so I guess Motorola/Lenovo decided to not waste resources on the Moto G 2015 upgrade.

Marshmallow 6.0 upgrade on the Moto G 2015 really leaves a lot to be desired in a lot of areas.

The reason is explained in the thread, however it is not clear and it takes some reading and investigating to sort out...

"Doze require the SMD sensor and GCM support."

The Moto G 2015 does not have a SMD (Significant Motion Detector) sensor, or at least one that is exposed to the operating system.

GCM (Google Cloud Messaging) is an app side feature, and not the issue.

The issue appears at this time not be software, but hardware, so blaming Moto/Lenovo for Doze not working is kind of incorrect since this handset was designed well ahead of the release of specs needed for specific features in Marshmallow. It just is what it is.

And third-party apps like Greenify are not triggering "real" Doze mode, they have always had a feature that acts like Doze mode, the post you are vaguely referring to is not correct information if you understand the technical aspect of how Greenify works. It cannot trigger Doze mode, it has a Doze-like mode as part of it's functionality.

Technical information on Doze mode and App Standby can be found here: http://developer.android.com/training/monitoring-device-state/doze-standby.html

thanks for clarifications ! So basically Moto G 2015 allegedly lacks the hardware to support Doze, but how did a third party overcome this issue on the 2nd gen Moto G ?

Doze isn't in the Release Notes.

I don't know how CM overcame that on the 2nd Gen Moto G, or even if the Moto G 2nd does or doesn't have the necessary hardware requirements... I am not familiar with that hardware or the CM dev's fix, and if it is actually Doze mode from AOSP or a similar facsimile that acts like it using different techniques.

Yeah, that was kind of the slap in the face that got some of us on XDA to dig into it, when we realized that Doze Mode wasn't mentioned in the Moto G 2015's release notes, but it was for the Moto X Play/Style models. That, coupled with the fact that our handset was not getting the significant increase in battery life when Doze mode should be doing it's job like other handsets were getting.

LOOOOOOOOOOOLLL. the main reason why I ugpraded from my 1st gen to this was the Doze.. such fail that I won't be even getting.

Trust me, Doze is not exactly a life saver, it only adds some 3-4% of battery during long sleep times (missing notification from apps put into "Doze" mode), you'd better stay at 5.1.1 if you want the Moto G3 to perform as intended.
