So I have noticed this weekend that at night my phone will drain 10-15% when I am sleeping it did not always do this. But I recently switched cases, to the official Nexus folio one, where it wakes the screen when the save is opened. Could this case be keeping it from entering doze when I am a sleep or could it be a rogue app?

I am always curious as to why people don't charge while they sleep so that they start their day with a fully charged device....

I'm sure my POV is a little skewed since I live an area with lots of trees--trees that fall on power lines!--so my family is in the habit of topping off all of the time and charging when we are at home and sitting around (and overnight).

Leaving a fully charged phone on the charger can stress the cells in the battery, reducing the effective life. It's not that there's a risk of overcharging, but sustained micro-charge cycles on a fully charged LiPo can and will reduce its life. Once a phone hits fully charged, it cuts out the power until it discharges a little bit... it'll then charge it back to 100%. It does so constantly until you take it off. While this method is safe in the sense that your battery shouldn't overcharge and sptizen-sparken on you, it's not the best thing to do if you want the battery to last.

Odd, I've read just the opposite. "Topping off is better than nearly full drains (ex: 100% >>> 10%)." I'm pretty comfortable with PopMech for reference as an example of what I've read ....

I do pretty much what they say:
  • I charge overnight, every night (and have since the Palm Treo days--my first smartphone! :) )
  • I top off when I can
  • I keep the battery/phone pretty cool (if I'm running the phone pretty hard with navigation + streaming music in the car, it stays in front of the vent which keeps it nice and cool)
  • I almost never let the battery fully drain

I don't know if that's true for lithium batteries. Here's a study done that says charge as much as you want, but don't let the battery discharge the entire way. Also I've seen other studies that say the same thing. I plug in at bedtime and unplug when I wake up and haven't had any problems.

Granted, LiPos don't have the trappings of their older Nickle based ancestors, but they aren't impervious to things. Go down and look at the section that talks about saturation charges... Right after figure 3 starting with the paragraph that says "Li-ion cannot absorb overcharge..."

Yep... that statement is 100% true. But saying that A is better than B doesn't always mean that A is good in and of itself. Given the choice of leaving it on the charger all night or draining until it powers off, let it charge all night. But ideally, you would pick neither as an option.

Wait... but we're getting WAAAAAY off topic here. :) we're not helping our friend anthony1117 fix his dozing issue.

It seems to be working now. I have no idea why now.

Also I have noticed this phone runs buggy if you don't give it a reboot every once and a while.
