I have been using a battery saving program (battery doctor). Lately it's been reporting that Drive is running all the time. Looks like it's something that came with kit kat? Does anyone know if it's ok if I turn it off or will it screw things up?

I turned it off and have had no problems with it!👌
Just more junk you don't need.

It's Google Drive. The app is on the Google app folder. I don't use Google + or do auto back ups, but you can also 'share' individual files, photos music etc to upload to Drive. I have a 15gb allowance on mine.

Whatever it was it was eating up battery power like crazy! I turned it off and battery is way way better!

Just curious, were you using the Drive app before you noticed it was eating battery in the background? Or was it just sitting there never opened and still eating up battery? I have lost some battery life after the Kitkat OTA and I'm wondering if turning Google Drive off might help.

I am the least knowledgeable on this, but as it's Google's cloud service, anything you choose to back up, and to sync in the Google account settings, goes via Drive.
Which brings us back to other threads where some have found turning off Google + (Plus) and / or many sync options in their Google account improves battery life.
There are pros and cons of disabling Google +, and un-syncing photos etc.
I use Kies, Samsung and Dropbox for the little back - ups I need. I just directly copy my photos, ripped music files and docs to my pc, but I am old school.
I do use Google for syncing apps, contacts and sometimes Calendar, call logs and sms. I can do these without Google + being enabled. I cannot now leave Play Store reviews without activating Google +, grrr!

(For 'Disabled' read 'Turned Off' on many models.)

I found this in the Google Settings 'App'. I never look at Google stuff but I am thinking of activating my Google + account again, if I can limit it.
Anyway, for Drive supported apps, maybe if via wifi only is not ticked, it is using data and battery all the time. ?
Gotta take a shower now - Google stuff all over me. Eeeuggh.
