Hello all, I am writing this on behalf of my brother who just got his first smartphone. The Droid 2 Global. I am a Droid 1 owner myself, still kickin' since release day back in '09. :)

So anyway, my brother has had the D2G for 1 week now. He asked me about some initial issues that may or may not be problems. I'm not sure of them myself.

He said he went to bed with the phone at 50% battery and woke up to it being dead & shut off. Is that a concern or enough to take it back to the store?

Also he has had one of his profiles randomly disappear and then come back 30 minutes later.

I'm not familiar with profiles being a OG Droid owner so I couldn't help him. But I did help him with some other small learning curves since he's new to smartphones. Thanks for any feedback.

I can help you with the battery. Androids eat batteries for breakfast. You need to keep it plugged into the charger overnight.

If he doesn't have push email and all sorts of other background data syncing apps running there shouldn't be a problem. I've left mine on overnight a number of times and don't wake up to a drained battery at all. Then again, I keep background syncing off, don't use any "push" email (I manually check), and I don't use any social networking apps that keep updates flowing in.

If he's got all that kind of crap running then yeah, that could be why. Otherwise that's abnormal to drain from 50% to zero in standby overnight.

He needs to check the battery settings. If it is on the performance setting, then it is syncing all the time which could drain the battery. If he puts it on nighttime or maximum battery saver, he will see the difference. As far as the profiles, I haven't used them so I don't know what that's about. I will check them out today and let you know if I find something. Also he needs to check if he has his phone set to global, gsm, or cdma. He should have it set to cdma to preserve battery life.

Wow, thank you everyone! Very helpful tips that I had no idea about! I will pass them on to him.

I do know for sure he doesn't have any push e-mail setup yet, nor any background data syncing. He isn't using any social networking apps just yet or anything intensive. I will have him check his battery settings and have him set his radio to CDMA only.

Thanks again!

As you know there are 3 types of wallpaper, 1) Live Wallpaper 2) Media & Gallery 3) Wallpaper

If he is using Live Wallpaper, that will take more battery use. Also in Display Settings-Animation- I have mine set to No Animation.

Oh yes, I also bought the Mototrola extended batter BP7X. Make sure to get one with the correct back cover.

Okay, my brother has had more issues and will be returning the phone before his 14 days is up this weekend.

While editing bluetooth settings the phone just rebooted.

He tried to dock to his desktop PC to add ringtones and couldn't get his phone to sync up. But he had already done it successfully once before.

I'm not sure if he's going to ask for another D2G or get a different phone altogether. It's his first smarthphone and hasn't been the pleasant experience he expected and he would rather not be stuck with a phone he isn't happy about for 2 years.

So maybe the D2G is really that bad? Does it have that many regular bad issues out of box? I wouldn't keep it either I told him.

Actually, I think the D2G is one of the least problematic Android phones. If this is his first smartphone then I would guess that some if his problems are user error. He should have someone at Verizon check it out. Maybe they can give him some tips.
