Droid 2 Global, VZW+AT&T?

I'm considering purchasing a Droid2 Global on Verizon for use as my personal phone, but I also carry a work phone (Blackberry Curve with a 3g SIM in it) from AT&T sometimes. I know the Global is designed to be capable of running on GSM networks such as AT&T, but is it possible to run an AT&T SIM card at the same time as being on Verizon's network such that both phone numbers are active at the same time? Also what would the impact of this be on battery life?

If this phone is capable of this, it probably puts it above the DroidX on my list as I really don't like carrying two phones around all the time.

Not only is it not possible to run the D2g on AT&Ts network, but even if you could, you could not run both CDMA + GSM at the same time. The D2g and the DroidPro are hardware coded to disallow access to the AT&T network, unlike their Blackberry counterparts.
Sorry.

This. Yeah, sorry man. But you can't have both networks running at the same time.

Why's it coded to disallow access to AT&T?

because they bought the Droid 2 from motorola to encourage customers to use Verizon as the carrier because they have a global compatible device. The last thing they want is you to use the device they paid to distibute on a direct competitor.

Gotcha...makes sense actually.

The way Verizon handled their global phones years ago (unsure if their policy changed or not) is that the gsm radio was lock so that it would only work with a Vodafone sim and in Europe you would roam through Vodafone. I heard that sometimes if you went into a Verizon store and told them you were going oversees you might be able to get them to unlock the gsm radio to work with any sim.

Nope. They're locked to only work with the vodafone sim. And VZW will absolutely not unlock the phone for you. You don't have to roam on Vodafone when you're abroad, but that is the branding on the sim. The new LTE sims are VZW branded, but again, right now the devices will only use VZW sims. If I'm not mistaken, one of the big draws to LTE for the consumer, is that the devices are supposed to be unlocked to accept any carriers LTE sims. That isn't the case now, but if/when ATT gets their LTE up, it just might be.

it really depends what frequency the european LTE networks are going to use. If it doesn't match verizon then it wont matter anyway because the radios wont match up. as for getting verizon to unlock your device, are they not required to unlock it if your bill is paid up and you are going to use it overseas on a different carrier plan rather than just roam on different networks with your Verizon plan.

So I unlocked my D2G with an unlock code from Verizon. I just want to be clear that it will work with foreign SIM cards but NOT with AT&T or T-Mobile. Is this correct? I'm planning to sell it and want to provide accurate information.
