Hey Guys,

So I am a previous owner of the original Droid, then I got the Droid 2, and today I have the Droid 3.

So my question is, what would you like to know? Any questions, suggestions, etc. that I may be able to provide?

Hi xxspark89xx ,

Congratulations on your new DROID 3
I really appreciate that you took the time to help us answering questions about the DROID 3

I've one question though , about the GSM bands
Can I just buy an off-contract DROID 3 & use it as stand alone GSM phone in Saudi Arabia with my own STC sim card ?

Again , Thank you very much for taking time to answer our questions
Thanks again , much appreciated

Right I forgot , one more thing (Actually 3 things)

How is the new MOTOBLUR Motorola Application Platform (aka M.A.P.) ? do you like it ?
Does it have that new lockscreen ?
Does it have the GingerBread TV effect when you turn of the screen ? (The reason im asking because Atrix's GingerBread 2.3.4 update doesn't have it)

Thank you very much for taking time to answer our questions
Thanks again , much appreciated

I think I can answer this. You usually need to be a VZW customer in good standing for a number of months before they will unlock the SIM.

Still waiting for confirmation that the phone can make video calls (with the FCC) via 3G, to a computer with Google Talk.

Thanks.

Is there anyway to skype video with it?
Does it feel alot thinner?

Haven't done skype with it.

It feels the same thickness as my OG droid but it also feels wider across, and it is a bigger overall phone. There is a tiny difference in thickness, with the D3 being thinner, if you stack them next to each other but nothing noticeable. They definitely preserved the thin slider feel.

I myself have a DINC and I'm looking to move toward the droid 3. One thing I would like to know is how the camera is. The 8mp on my incredible is less than stellar. When I say less then stellar, I mean that my Env2 had a better camera than this thing. So if you could post up some pictures or something that would be great!

Moto whatever hasn't bothered me, I removed the widgets and use the default home. The phone has the horsepower for it and I am using live wallpaper too with no issues. I tried some of the home replacements I have used on my rooted droid but I went back to the moto app home for now. It's no biggie so far.

Not sure on the lockscreen being new, since it's newer than my droid's anyway, it has a cool effect with the forest live background as the trees part when you unlock it.

It has the gingerbread tv effect when turning off the screen.

I had a droid 2 and liked it, but exchanged it a couple days later and got a fascinate, no particular reason why, I just liked the 4 inch screen on the fasc. The droid 2 was good though, I just dont want a huge phone that I cant pocket. I think I might go get this the 14th. Ill have to play with it in the vzw store and compare it to my fascinate. :) Thanks.

I like it better than my gf's fascinate but I dig the keyboard. It's also peppier. Both have nice screens and the footprint is the same but the D3 is thicker. I like the build on the D3 better though. Fascinate is still a bad ass phone.

Ahh so its about the same size as the fascinate just a little thicker? Good to hear, I feel like my fasc is the perfect size.

Not exactly but it feels the same size in my hand. Same size screen, same class sort of deal. It's a little taller when you account for the reverse chin, the width is really close and it's obviously thicker.

Actually , I like the look of Motorola's new UI allot more than the stock\vanilla Android (Which my OG MileStone runs)

A picture of Motorola's new Lockscreen is attached below

Thank you very much , much appreciated

Any slow down or lagging. And what is your opinion on the new screen.?

I only hit lag on the initial startup. After I rebooted it has been very smooth. So smooth it has been hard to get used to coming from an OG Droid.

Screen looks nice to me. You can see the pentile effect at about 6 inches but that's not really a practical using distance, the brightness hurts my eyes. Games, pics, vids and the browser look great.

+1

After playing around with the phone for a while now, it appears to have gotten "faster" and "smoother". Perhaps from getting over the initialization phase and syncing the cache. Either way, it appears to be a very solid phone all around. :)

I got my D3 on Friday. I went from an OG Droid to a Thunderbolt to a D3. It's my favorite of those three phones. Nice build quality. Its pretty fast. Seems faster than the Thunderbolt. The battery last pretty well. That was one of the big reasons I gave up the Thunderbolt. I got tired of having to walk around with a 100' extension cord. The battery seems about what my OG Droid was. The only thing I don't have turned on all the time is Bluetooth.

I actually one have one negative on the phone. It's the buttons on the side and top (Power and Volume buttons). I wish they were a little bigger and easier to push. Other than that, I really don't have any complaints about the phone. I'd be satisfied with this until my contract is up in a couple of years and something even better comes out.
