ok guys let me first thank all who help on this site it is great and has a great group behind it.My problem is i did the gin update 2.3.4 manually by putting the update file on sd card had it for a week or so now works great but the more i read the more i want to root and try custom roms (cyan) etc.. problem is when i hold volume down and power keys nothing happens no matter how long i hold it then when i do release it just boots normal how can i get back to stock so i can root.thanks again guys you are lots of help and make things easy for the noobs like me.

There isn't a root method for the gingerbread update, not that I now of.

ok but what about getting into boot menu to go back stock?

Sounds like the phone is not powering off completely. Goto Settings/Power and see if "Fast Boot" is checked. If it is checked, uncheck it. Fast boot keeps the phone in kind of "hibernated" status, and when you push the power button and volume, it can't boot into the Hboot because it isn't doing a cold boot.

ok is it worth it to get rid of 2.3.4 to a custom rom before i go back stock and what is the easiest way to put rom on once i root with unrevoked is there any roms i can do like the manual update and just download it rename update and it in stall the less steps the better it will be my first root and rom try

Not sure if you can go back, but I have the signed Froyo build on pvillecomp.com. No promises that it will work though. I have not seen any reports that it will.

If it works, then you can root and flash the rooted version of the build that is listed here...
