Droid Incredible for Enterprise

I think the Incredible is the same on battery drain as my Storm was. I would only last a day on my storm and I only last about a day in my Inc.

I would agree with you with this side note. You have to realize how little you use your storm, probably just like me. I was an email power user, but the majority of apps were so bad that I never spent time in them. The browser was like watching paint dry, painful to say the least. This gives the illusion of long battery life. With this phone, I could seriously play on it all day. The apps and web browser are amazing, hence the "poor" battery life. It's basically a case of, this phone is so fast, OS wise, that you can accomplish so much more, including playing, that you are on it a lot more.

After saying all that, I would go ahead and order the 1750 battery as I did. Well worth it to be able to make it a full 16 hour day. If you are playing hard on it, u will only get 10-12 hours which is still pretty amazing for everything you are doing. Can you imagine a laptop lasting 12 hours?

Hope that helps!

I work in the IT department of a large law firm and we have supported Android devices for a while. I just made the switch, personally, last week from BES to the Incredible. For email, contacts, and calendar, there are no issues at all. However, Outlook Tasks and Notes do not synchronize (just as they don't with the iPhone). If that's not a concern, I would recommend you make the switch.

For the record, I also run the IT Dept, and running Exchange 2003. There is NOTHING on my DInc that I can't do, that I did on my BB. It fully support HTML and every every feature of email/calendar/tasks, etc... Maybe some of you don't have your exchange set up properly. No, you can't use the HTC email client because it doesn't support HTML. Use Touchdown if you want HTML (I do), it's not the server it's the client (HTC). I have flawless push (often getting the email before my outlook does). Again, tasks DO sync, it's just the HTC client that is crap. Use Touchdown.

I will never use a BB again with their WAY outdated and boring OS. LONG LIVE ANDROID :)

MushroomStamp, I started with Touchdown but quickly switched because Touchdown as not displaying the full content of our Help Desk tickets (using Track-IT). HTC mail handles this without and issue. This is more important to me than synchronizing Tasks.

As you stated, I typically get my messages on my Dinc before they hit Outlook.

@Velopirate: intereesting, are you sure you had the right version of TD? there are 2, 1 of them cuts off and doesn't display my emails correctly on the DInc, the other has displayed every inch of every email. I'm pretty sure you had to have had the wrong version. I had the wrong version at first till I contacted NitroDesk and they explained it to me.

My DInc ran great using ActiveSync for about a week, then I would stop getting emails. I could still send and my calendar and contacts still synced, i just could not get email. I looked at the accounts settings page and under activesync all it said was "an error occurred on the computer running the exchange server". I called our corporate helldesk (do, I did not typo that) and was very rudely told it wasn't their problem.

Yeah many companies take that approach. Me, I try to allow as many employees access and try accommodate all special requests. I prefer productive happy employees rather than drones of the process :)

Heh, I even went as far as to have a few friends create me an email address on their server and it's been working great for weeks on 3 separate email servers. No issues on any of them. Is there anything I can tell our corp "tech people" to try to see if we can get it working? I'm 99.9% sure we're on Exchange 2007.

Exchange 2007 is even easier to get it to work on that 2003. Really all they need to do is go in the ESM and and make sure in the Mobile Services properties to check all the boxes in the Exchange Activesync area. and the outlook Mobile Access area. But I can support all Android, iPhone, WinMo, and some cases Symbian devices. We don't have an employee in the company that hasn't been able to get their device working.

I have not found any security concerns regarding the server by allowing this. If they have any they can always implement SSL. I just don't use SSL because of performance on some handhelds. They can also have Password enforcement and Wipe the device remotely. Really just a win win for everyone.

I think my company uses Activesync or Goodsync for the Droid Incredible. So you then recommend using Touchdown? Is this in addition to the Activesyc? I apologize but I'm not as tech savvy when it comes to these things.

Started using the stock Exchange program that came on the Incredible and decided to give TouchDown a try. To date (about 3 weeks) it has been a much better experience. Full HTML emails, if you want them, the people (contacts) application is better and I can still send, accept and cancel appointments through the calendar program. Mind you I had no problems with the standard program, I just like TouchDown better.

Microsoft Office

Does Android natively allow viewing and editing of Microsoft Office docs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)?

Quick office will let you view documents, but you can't edit.

However you can goto the market and get "Documents to Go" which if you came from Blackberry you may very well be aware of. The basic version is free:

Documents To Go 2.0 Main App - Android app on AppBrain

Buy full version to unlock:

* Editing
* Creating
* PowerPoint
* Adobe PDF
* Zooming
* Charts
* Passwords & more

The full Version is $14.99 and is purchasable through the market inside the free app. Not bad and a really good app if you mess with document editing on the go a lot.

Great Thread! I'm also a Crackberry Addict going to Droid Rehab! How is it to read excel spreadsheets on the Droid?

Another question. Does the Droid Incredible have the ability to combine other e-mail accounts with your Exchange account into one combined inbox? This is something that the BlackBerry does that I like.

Also, my IT group says that the phone requires a password be entered every time the screen times out. Is this normal or is my IT group enabling this out of their own paranoia?

I had a chance to play around with the Droid Incredible at the Verizon store today and I liked it. Typing on the touch screen will take some getting used to, but the phone was lightning fast compared with my BlackBerry. I'm definitely leaning toward returning my BlackBerry, so I appreciate all the help with answering my questions.

I ordered my phone on June 8th, so If you get your phone next week, that would work. I appreciate the help!

Got my phone and exchange sync is a piece of cake. Calendar, Contacts, email - all works!

Happy to test and answer questions if you have any.

Ezun, you're awesome. I definitely want to get the Inc., but I have to get corporate approval first. They are "working on it", so I may be out of luck. Our company usually reserves these kinds of phones for "senior managers", which I am not. I'll keep you posted!
