Droid Maxx 2 Storage Problems

Whenever I try to update my apps I get an error message saying I have insufficient storage. I have a 32gb micro SD card that I formatted as internal storage, so I should have plenty of space for apps and stuff. Also I just updated the phone software, and after rebooting the phone a lot of my apps were gone from the phone completely. Help would be greatly appreciated as this issue is really ticking me off.
EDIT: My apps did not get deleted, they are still there, they just disappeared from my home screen.

Also, are you saying the app shortcuts disappeared from the homescreen, or that the apps disappeared from your App Drawer? If the shortcuts disappeared from the homescreen, just create new shortcuts.
